Hands On Sacramento selected Vision Launchers to host a letter for their award-winning "DREAM" campaign. The idea for the campaign actually originated when Hands On came to Vision Launchers in search of some innovative ideas for their annual Martin Luther King Jr. volunteer event.
After diving into the mission and vision of Hands On, VL developed the, "DREAM" campaign. Utilizing simple materials donated from Home Depot and drawing upon Martin Luther King Jr's famous speech, Hands On staff built the letters D-R-E-A-M from plywood and then invited the community to sign the letters with their dreams for the city of Sacramento. Hundreds of "dreams" were scribbled onto the letters during the huge volunteer event and are now being displayed at prominent Sacramento-area businesses.
The campaign was covered by local and regional media and showcased by organizations such as Accenture, Home Depot and the YMCA. The "DREAM" campaign won the Americorps Creative Service award for 2007 - a prestigious award given to the most creative campaign to get people involved in volunteering at a community level. Also, the "DREAM" campaign is currently being picked up nationally by hundreds of other volunteer organizations and is being substantially sponsored by Home Depot and other Fortune 500 firms.
Hands On works with individuals, businesses, community groups, nonprofit organizations and public agencies to transform good intentions into good works. Hands On's engaging service opportunities educate individuals, inspire further volunteerism and make an indelible impact on the Sacramento community.
